Special Correspondent (Bengaluru): It is not confirmed yet that the Chandrayaan-2 lander Vikram is on the moon’s surface in a single piece, The Indian Space Research Organization has said.
The Indian Space Research Organization has refused to any confirmation on the condition of Vikram, lander. It is not confirmed that Vikram lander was lying intact on the surface of the moon. The ISRO chairman’s office responded to a report, published by news agency Press Trust of India and said “What PTI has published isn’t confirmed. We haven’t confirmed it as well.” The clarification added that the space agency would provide an update as and when it had confirmation on Vikram’s fate.
While attempting to land on the surface of the moon, ISRO headquarters lose the contact with lander at early Saturday morning. Vikram housing the six-wheeled Chandrayaan-2 rover Pragyaan, lost connection with the mission command centre in Bengaluru when the lander was just 2.1 km away from the surface of the moon.
Orbiter Safe
The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter is safe and is continuously moving in its orbit around the moon. The orbiter has sent the image of Vikram on Sunday.
ISRO is likely to use orbiter to find Vikram but the life span of Vikram and rover Pragyaan mission is just 14 days. The space agency doesn’t have a lot of time.
What Happens to Chandrayaan-2 Mission?
Majority of the experiments are located on the orbiter, landing of Vikram and Pragyaan on the moon was just a part of the mission. The orbiter is safe and continuously moving around the moon.
The orbiter is scheduled to conduct eight experiments while Vikram and Pragyaan both combined experiment number is five. Chandrayaan-2 orbiter will estimate the quantity of frozen water on the moon.
The mission is not failed; orbiter will send important results. The Chandrayaan-2 mission is of one year.
