Earth Day: Eight Renowned Vocalists Come Together To Make Multilingual Song Dharti Ma

Mumbai: A group of eight talented singers have come together to make a multilingual song called Dharti Ma. This song will release on April 22 Earth Day. Leading classical vocalists and musicians come together to compose an Earth Day song Dharti Ma in eight different languages. The song will celebrate the Earth at a time when the world is facing a health crisis.

World is locked down because of COVID-19 pandemic even when the Earth Day is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Hence to heal the Earth with music, eight musicians have collaborated to prepare a Dharti Ma song to give a musical tribute the Earth. This song is composed by Amrit Ramnath and it is an amalgamation of various styles. It is sung in eight various languages.

“Music can create a glimmer of hope, it’s a language that can reach everybody. Music heals, it is a prayer and considering the very challenging times that we are going through, we wish for everyone’s good health and well- being through these notes and melody,” says Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, a noted Carnatic music vocalist and ambassador of the Earth Day Network.

Presenting the song are noted singers—Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Hansraj Hans, Shankar Mahadevan, Mahesh Kale, Shweta Mohan, Abhishek Raghuram, MD Pallavi and Abhay Jodhpurkar. Each singer is singing in different languages to make a composition that is universal appeal itself. The song is sung in Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. “Each one’s style is different and relevant to the language they are singing in,” says Jayashri.

The composition is made melodious with the different instruments including guitar, tabla, percussion, violin and mridangam. “Music unites people across borders, regardless of whether they speak the same language or not. In this moment of acute climate crisis, humanity needs to speak in one voice to protect our common home, Earth. The song is a gift to all who inhabit Earth,” says Karuna Singh, Regional Director Asia, Earth Day Network.

Well, most part of the song has been done before lockdown period and the song is a message to protect and save the Earth. Before lockdown singers completed the composition. “We have unfortunately landed ourselves in such a situation. After this, everything will change forever, the way we look at things, the way we do things. Through this crisis, the Earth is throwing up challenges and telling us that we need to preserve it. We must remember that the Earth will outlive us and we must do our all to protect it,” says Jayashri.

Kaushiki Chakraborty, a popular classical vocalist and ambassador of Earth Day Network believes that Dharti Ma will help “raise the awareness amongst people for our Mother Earth and the necessity of taking care of her and leave a better planet for generations to come.”
